George J. Holinga – Candidate for Grove City Council, At-Large
By Rachel Scofield
George Holinga brings decades of leadership and civic involvement to his campaign for Grove City Council.
Holinga currently serves as Chairman of the Grove City Building and Zoning Committee, Chairman of the Community Infrastructure Financial Authority, and President of the Pinnacle Homeowners Association. He says these roles have given him the experience to understand the complexities of city planning and development.
“I have had 40 plus years of successful business experience heading up both public and private companies,” Holinga said. “I’m an objective, common sense and analytical problem solver.”
He believes one of the biggest challenges facing Grove City is “creating a reasonable balance between residential and commercial/warehouse growth while keeping our community safe.”
To address these issues, Holinga said he would take a thoughtful approach: “As a consensus builder, I would critically analyze any new proposed developments and projects with an eye to how they would impact the city’s infrastructure.”
Holinga also noted what he sees as the city’s strengths.
“Historically, Grove City has maintained a friendly suburban atmosphere while providing services usually associated with larger municipalities.”
Known by friends as “Mr. Fix-It,” Holinga is a familiar face at Home Depot and an active member of his church.
Outside of public service, he enjoys restoring old cars, fishing, and gardening. He has been married to his wife, Karen, for 52 years and is proud to be “Papa George” to their grandchildren.
