Bourbon, brats, and big crowds

Thousands gathered for the 10th annual Heart of Grove City Bourbon and Spirits Festival, an annual celebration highlighting Ohio distilleries and Grove City’s small-town charm.
The event featured 13 distilleries from across the state. Tastings of everything from small-batch blends to limited-edition single barrels were available. Leather and Oak Spirits and Echo Spirits Distilling were favorites as they drew long lines for their craft bourbon.
“It’s all about sharing what makes our community special,” said Heart of Grove City director Brent Miller. “The VIP section was such a success this year, that we are planning to expand it for next year. We are hoping to bring in a distillery to provide education on the bourbon making process with all its nuances. It will be a unique experience for bourbon enthusiasts.”
For longtime residents of Grove City, Ron and Connie Smith, the event is a tradition.
“I haven’t missed a year since it started,” Ron Smith said, “It’s the perfect mix of great bourbon and friendly people.”
Organizers estimate more than 5,000 visitors attended this year’s festival, a record turnout to previous years.
Proceeds from the festival are poured back into the community with events such as the Mistletoe Market and other town center gatherings and projects.
