National Wellness Month: focus on recovery
by Theresa Garee
August is recognized as National Wellness Month. Wellness can include many aspects of one’s life. Recovery is an aspect that local resources are available for.
Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a 12-step program designed to offer recovery from a wide variety of addictions and behavioral patterns.
Each CR has different circles of focus, however, the pattern of meetings and 12-steps program resembles other recovery Programs.
“People can find recovery from addictions, codependency, pornography, depression, obsessive behaviors, insecurity, anxiety, body image issues, eating disorders, gambling, enabling or any other hurt, hang-up or habit,” said Celebrate Recover Ministry Leader Melissa Shaw
Shaw leads CR at First Baptist Church at 3301 Orders Rd, Grove City on Mondays at 6 p.m.
The CR 12 steps resemble other recovery programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
Both AA and NA are more subject-focused recovery groups.
Alcoholics Anonymous is available at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at 3220 Columbus Street, Grove City on Mondays at 7 p.m and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. Monday focuses on reflection, Friday is usually a speaker. Serenity Seekers meets on Saturdays at 7 p.m. And for daytime attendees, there is rotating subject meetings on Mondays at noon.
Narcotics Anonymous is available at the Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church at 2930 W. Broad Street, Columbus on Mondays through Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Their website says, “If you’re stomach is all tied up in knots, you’re probably in the right place.”
